Bare Down There Waxing...

A note about cancellations.  Stuff happens... we totally get that.  Please know that we are a small business - if you don't show up for your appointment, we can't stay in business and continue to serve you.  We greatly appreciate 24 hours notice if you can't make your appointment.  We will make every attempt to work out an alternative.

Also, no shows.... we get that too.  Waxing is scary.  You make the appointment after a couple glasses of wine and think "I can do this!"  And then the day comes and you chicken out.  Please don't!  If you decide you're in over your head, just cancel the appointment.  No harm, no foul.  You can even just text us to cancel.  We promise not to hassle you.

New policy for "No-Show Clients": if you are a new client (never been in before and you decide to "no-show" you will be blocked from the booking site and will not be eligible to book again unless you pay for the missed appointment and the new appointment.

Current clients get one free pass on a "no-show", then the same policy goes into effect for them.

Before and after your appointment

There are many benefits to waxing versus other forms of hair removal. Waxing is a long-lasting method: hair in waxed areas will not grow back for two to four weeks, and when the hair does grow back it is sparse, soft and thin. When hair is shaved or removed by depilatory cream, the hair is removed at the surface rather than the root. Within a few days, the hair can be seen at the surface. With these methods, hair tends to grow back in a rough stubble. Areas that are repeatedly waxed over long periods of time often exhibit diminished regrowth - regrowth that is thinner, softer, and lighter in color.  WHEN YOU WAX, YOU WILL NOT EXPERIENCE THE PAINFUL ITCHY FEELING AS YOUR HAIR GROWS BACK!

Prior to waxing, preparatory tips

It's important that you moisturize the area being waxed for a couple of days before your appointment.  Dry skin makes waxing more painful, so use lotion and have a better experience!
  1. The hair needs to be at least 1/2 an inch and no longer than 1 inch (1/2 inch is ideal). If it's longer, the wax will mat in the hair and you will not be able to wax that day. Use your beard trimmer to achieve this prior to your appointment.
  2. Pre-medicate before the procedure if you feel you need it. Ibuprofen is the best way to go and you should take it at least one hour prior to your appointment. (a glass of wine can help a bit too...)
  3. Shower and clean your entire body thoroughly before the appointment. It’s only fair. This service often involves a certain amount of nudity and some very intimate positions. You may be asked to undress from the waist down (depending on your service) and provided a drape. You will be expected to use it and assist in the procedure in a calm and professional manner at all times.
  4. All your questions will be answered. After-care instructions will be provided, including what to expect. You will be advised to exfoliate and use anti-bacterial ointment as needed between waxing. Your skin may react in a number of different ways, there's no way to tell for sure, but rest assured everything is manageable.

After-care treatment

We wish we could say that you won't break out or have any ingrown hairs ever, but it wouldn't be true.  You will have less issues than with shaving, we can promise that.  There are a few things you can do to minimize post-waxing trauma.  To ensure maximum comfort and benefit after the treatment, it is important to follow the steps below at home:

  1. Avoid applying heat to the waxed area for 12 to 24 hours. This includes really hot baths, sauna, and steam. Also avoid pools, hot tubs, oceans or rivers/lakes.
  2. Use Bikini Kitty for pubis, face, back, or chest following the treatment and one to two times a day until breakouts are gone.
  3. Avoid sun tanning for 12 to 24 hours. This includes any strong ultraviolet (UV) light exposure or tanning bed treatments.
  4. Avoid applying highly fragrant products to the waxed area. This includes perfume, scented body lotions, antiperspirants, tanning accelerators, cosmetics or feminine hygiene sprays. Only use professional after-care products, recommended to you by me.
  5. If you are prone to ingrown hairs or want to avoid them, exfoliate waxed area with Bikini Kitty after-care products to avoid future problems.
  6. Avoid applying high SPF sunblocks to the waxed area for 12-24 hours after the waxing service. Sunscreen chemicals can be irritating to the newly waxed skin. This includes self-tanning products and tan accelerators.
  7. Any pinking of the skin should disappear within 6 to 8 hours after the waxing treatment. Slight pinking is normal, and indicates that the hair was removed from the root rather than superficially broken off, as it would be in shaving. This is the reason that professional waxing lasts so much longer.

For best results, repeat your professional waxing every 4 to 6 weeks depending on the area and your individual hair growth rate. It's best to wax consistently, at the same time interval.  This trains the growth cycle and gives you the best results. Most issues get better after your skin and hair follicles get used to being waxed... consistency is the key!
