There is a lot of misinformation about waxing out there and it might be overwhelming at times. How can you tell fact from fiction? Well we’re here to talk about three waxing myths and the real truth.

Myth #1: Waxing causes ingrown hairs.Â
Waxing gets a bad rap for causing ingrown hairs, and we’re here to tell you that waxing in fact doesn’t cause ingrown hairs, poor skincare does! Ingrown hairs occur when dead skin clogs up the hair follicle, and when the hair tries to grow up and out, it’s blocked, so it curls and grows inward. This can cause red bumps, irritation, and sometimes pustules. Ingrown hairs are normal and the majority of the population gets them, however, they CAN be prevented!Â
It’s all about your skincare routine. If you shave or get waxed it’s important to have a strong and thorough routine to help rejuvenate your skin after these treatments (also, caring for your skin is also important even if you don’t shave/wax). We recommend dry brushing, it’s a super effective way to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells and it doesn’t require expensive formulas or creams.Â

Myth #2: I have sensitive skin, I shouldn’t get waxed.
If you have sensitive skin, it could be scary to get waxed and we totally understand that. No one wants to deal with discomfort or imagine the horrors of caring for skin that’s in pain or inflamed afterward. However, two main factors that lead to pain and discomfort after a wax are the esthetician’s experience and the quality of wax being used. Traditional wax can in fact effect skin in negative ways, which is why we use NuFree. NuFree is a medical grade, soy based vegan resin that is not made from sugars, wax or honey. Because it doesn’t stick to the skin, you won’t experience the pain, discomfort, and irritation from wax based processes. We love this stuff, and we think you will too.

The second factor to pain and discomfort is your esthetician’s experience. We’ve been in business for over ten years and have thousands of 5 star reviews – we promise to take special care of your sensitive skin!

Myth #3: I started my period, I need to reschedule.
We get a lot of people worried about rescheduling their appointment with us if they recently started their period. While this is completely up to you to decide, please know that you can get waxed while on your period, just wear a tampon and don’t worry about it.Â

There’s also a lot of misconceptions out there that if you’re on your period this will make your wax more painful or your skin more sensitive. While menstruating can increase the sensitivity of your skin and can cause more inflammation, it’s important to note that these effects are personal and don’t necessarily apply to everyone. Most people can get waxed while menstruating and are completely fine. What’s important is that you listen and pay attention to your body. If you need to reschedule, we completely understand, but don’t feel like you have to!
